Mountain Mobility Offers a Variety of Fare Free Services

In a time when it can be difficult to find or pay for transportation, the Buncombe County Board of Commissioners is helping provide free transportation via Mountain Mobility. As part of an ongoing response to COVID-19, Commissioners have unanimously approved suspending rural general public fares through June 30, 2022.

Through  County funding and other grant sources, most Mountain Mobility services are free of charge (with the exception of City of Asheville’s ADA Complementary Paratransit Services provided in partnership with the City of Asheville). Mountain Mobility provides a number of routes, programs, and options for navigating Buncombe County, for example, the Trailblazer Routes. Learn more by exploring Mountain Mobility’s website or calling (828) 250-6750.

ADA Complementary Paratransit Services

Reservations for service can be made seven days a week between the hours of 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. by calling Mountain Mobility at 250-6750 extension 4. Reservations must be made no later than 5 p.m. the day before the requested day of travel. Mountain Mobility operates 36 paratransit vans that are equipped with lifts to aid passengers using mobility devices. Reasonable modifications will be provided.

The ADA Complementary Paratransit Service fare is $2 for a one-way trip. Official personal care attendants (PCAs) travel free with an ADA passenger. On the date of travel, passengers will be picked up within one hour of requested pick up time.
