Women's Commission Vacancies

Volunteer for a Board Vacancy

Buncombe County Commissioners are taking applications for several vacancies on the Women's Commission through June 29.

The Women's Commission is empowered to advise County Commissioners and educate the public on issues of particular concern to women.

The Women's Commission is planning an August 2018 Women's Agenda Assembly for residents of Buncombe County and surrounding areas.  Participants will address issues of importance to women, such as access to healthcare, violence against women, civic participation and equality, economical security and self-sufficiency.

Assembly participants will discuss priorities for action and convey their conclusions to North Carolina Women United for inclusion in a statewide legislative agenda to be presented to the North Carolina legislature. Participants will also explore avenues for local solutions to issues of special concern to women and provide the Women's Commission a basis for laying out plans for future initiatives.

The Commissioners are seeking a diverse membership for the Women's Commission, representing a variety of communities throughout Buncombe County. While experience working in other community organizations is helpful, it is not essential; life experience and commitment to participating in the work of the commission are also important.

Women's Commission meetings are held at 3 p.m. on the third Monday of each month in the County Administration building at 200 College Street in downtown Asheville.

If you are interested in serving on the Women's Commission, please fill out the attached application form. (Feel free to describe your experience and goals at greater length than that provided by lines on the form.)

Deadline to apply is June 29 at 5 p.m.
