Everyone knows library story times are for kids, but this month, we’ll be having a special Valentines story time for adults! Plan to join us at Pack Library on Thursday, February 9 at 1pm for Chocolate and Love stories featuring storyteller Papa Joe Gaudet. Papa Joe is one of those characters you’d expect to see wandering through the pages of a children’s picture book. When you see him telling a tale with an explosion of expressions and a wide range of voices, you’ll know the reasons he is so loved by his listeners. Light refreshments (including chocolate!) will be served.  This free program is for anyone age 12 and up.

Love Songs and Murder Ballads of the Appalachian Mountains
Tuesday, February 14 at 6:30 p.m.
Swannanoa Library - 101 W. Charleston Ave. - Swannanoa
(828) 250-6486

Join us for an evening of traditional love songs and murder ballads from the mountain songster - lyrical, riddling, murderous and humorous.

Two generations of the Mosers of Swannanoa and friends will introduce us to this mountain song tradition and help us learn about the history and folklore behind it, with plenty of chills along the way!

The Mosers and friends will perform and discuss the history of curious and centuries old songs from Great Britain and the Appalachian mountains. The Mosers’ knowledge comes not only from formal education, but also from their family’s extensive roots in the mountains of BeeTree and Swannanoa. All of these musicians feel honored to celebrate the music of our mountains.

This free program is recommended for ages 13 & up. This event is free, but you do need to register. Please visit the library web page and use the link on the calendar for this program to sign up.
