Public Libraries: Family Fun in February

These family friendly programs featuring community presenters will give you and your little ones plenty of reasons to love visiting your local library this February.

Tiny Tots Yoga
Swannanoa Library

Even our littlest kiddos need to find time to relax and breathe deeply! Local yoga instructor Brandon Hudson makes yoga fun through a fun combination of movement, songs, easy yoga poses, and breathing techniques. Hudson holds a master's in special education from Western Carolina University and has years of experience working with children with autism and other special needs both in the classroom and on the mat. Mats are provided and space is limited. For children ages 1-3 with their caregiver. For more information, call 828-250-6486.

Valentine’s Day Tea Party

Ages 2-5

Spread the love with friends and family at this special tea party story time, featuring stories, songs, crafts, tea and snacks. Young participants are welcome to dress in their fanciest clothes to celebrate Valentine’s Day a few days early. Toddlers, preschoolers and their grown-ups are all welcome. Build a Bug Found Art Workshops
East Asheville Library
Saturday, February 11, 2-4 pm
Thursday, February 23, 4-5:30 pm
Ages 6 and up

Asheville artist Jeff Menzer guides school age kids in a hands-on workshop to create found art bug sculptures. Menzer assists participants in repurposing everyday materials and recyclables, such as industrial discards, golf balls, and wire, to design one-of-a-kind creations they can take home. Menzer’s own art show, Re-Art, will be displayed in East’s front lobby community art space, FlowState, through March 3. Open to curious kids ages 6 and up. To register, call 828-250-4738.

Story Explorers: Outer Space
Pack Memorial Library
February 16, 4-5 pm
Grades K-5

Discover the great unknown with hands-on S.T.E.A.M. stations all about outer space! Design, test and launch your own rocket that is sure to make a foamy explosion. Hold some real meteorites in your hand and discover what makes these space rocks so unique. Activities are presented by The Pisgah Astronomical Research Institute (PARI), a nonprofit facility dedicated to STEM research and education in Pisgah National Forest.  Open to grades K-5.
