WNC Air Quality Presents Clean Air Excellence Award

The WNC Regional Air Quality Agency recently awarded the Asheville Housing Authority (AHA) a Clean Air Excellence Award. The AHA was certified by the Sustainable Performance Institute as a sustainable affordable housing provider in 2013 thanks to the significant commitment it has made over the last several years to energy efficiency. The implementation of an energy performance contract with Siemens has reduced baseline energy and water consumption significantly, with electricity down 16%, natural gas down 24%, and water consumption down 50%.

Some of the AHA's recent projects include major renovations of Aston Park Tower and the Arthur R. Edington Education and Career Center (formerly the W.C. Reid Center) as well as upgrading the boiler and other systems at the Altamont Apartments. For additional information about the Clean Air Excellence Awards, please contact the WNC Regional Air Quality Agency at 828.250.6777, email wncair@buncombecounty.org, or visit www.wncairquality.org.
