Employees - You Can Still Get Your Flu Shot!

FREE flu shots are still offered to all Buncombe County Employees and qualifying family members. Just make an appointment with Employee and Family Health - 250-6150.

The CDC recommends that everyone get their flu shot as soon as it’s available.

  • All Buncombe County Employees - full-time, temporary, part-time, and contract employees may receive a flu shot.
  • Spouses and children/dependents must be enrolled in the County health insurance plan to receive a flu shot this year. This is a change from years past. Children must be at least 6 months old in order to get a flu shot.

Make sure you come with a completed Flu Shot Consent Form for each individual receiving a flu shot. Please be sure to read the 2012 Vaccine Information Statement (VIS) for more information on the 2012-2013 flu shot. The consent form and the information sheet are attached below.

The 2012-2013 flu vaccine will protect against three different flu viruses: an H3N2 virus, an influenza B virus and the H1N1 virus that caused so much illness in recent years. Getting the flu vaccine soon after it becomes available each year is always a good idea, and the protection you get from vaccination will last throughout the flu season. For more information about the flu, the vaccine, and H1N1 flu check out the CDC’s website at

Employee and Family Health only offers the “regular” flu shot. Check with your primary care provider or the Buncombe County Department of Health for availability of the nasal spray vaccine, intradermal flu shot or high dose flu shot.

Please note that FREE flu shots for Buncombe County Employees and eligible family members are not available at the public clinics sponsored by Buncombe County Health Center as in years past.
