Plant A Row Demonstration Garden at MANNA Food Bank

Visit with our volunteers who'll be happy to answer your gardening questions or explain their vegetable growing techniques while they tend the garden. Check out the raised beds and the interesting structures they have devised to support plants. Lots of ideas for your own home garden. Of course, you can drop by to take a look and pick up a leaflet at any time. Plant Problem Clinic

By Extension Master Gardeners at the WNC Farmers' Market, Saturday, July 27 from 11 a.m. - 2 p.m. in the breezeway between the retail buildings. Let us help you with your plant and bug problems. Please bring plant samples that are large enough for plant identification.

Backyard Compost Demonstration

By Extension Master Gardeners at the WNC Farmers' Market beside Jesse Israel's Garden Center, Saturday, July 27 from 11 a.m. - 2 p.m. Free. Learn how to make "black gold" from your yard and kitchen waste.

Check out several compost systems suitable for backyard use. Watch EMGs tend the compost-in-progress. View a worm composting bin (vermicomposting). Kids love it! So do adults.

Gardening in the Mountains Series: Garden Divas: Camellias, Daphnes and Roses

Presented by Extension Master Gardener Judy Deutsch. These beautiful flowering shrubs delight us with their beauty and then confound us with their tempers. Come and learn how to choose, plant and grow these Southern Belles. Wednesday, July 17 at 10 a.m.  Free. To register, call 255-5522, or email Joyce.Plemmons@buncombecounty.org

Floral Design Class for Entering the Fair

Presented by Extension Master Gardeners. This class will prepare you to enter the Design and Arrangements classes at the WNC Mountain State Fair in September.  Bring your flowers, containers and tools. Thursday, July 18 from 10 a.m. - Noon.  Free. To register, call 255-5522, or email Joyce.Plemmons@buncombecounty.org.
