Identity Theft Awareness Day - TODAY!

If your identity is stolen, what will you do? Do you know your rights? Knowing what to do is important because an identity thief can hijack your tax refund, alter your medical records, prevent you from getting credit or a job, and even borrow money in your child’s name.

Buncombe County TRIAD, a coalition of public and private sector partners united to improve the safety and well-being of older adults, and Walgreens, the nation’s largest drugstore chain, are hosting a Protect Your Identity Day on Tuesday, July 9 to encourage people to make identity protection part of their regular routine and reduce their risk of identity theft.

Professionals from law enforcement agencies, along with local attorneys and community professionals will be in each Buncombe County Walgreens to answer questions and provide information on identity theft:

  • 578 Leicester Highway:  12 - 3 p.m. and 4 - 6 p.m.
  • 841 Merrimon Avenue:  5 - 7 p.m.
  • 91 South Tunnel Road:  11 a.m. - 1 p.m. and 5-7 p.m.
  • 1835 Hendersonville Road:  1-3 p.m.
  • 2501 Hendersonville Road:  1-3 p.m.

“Knowing how to protect your personal information and reduce the risk of identity theft are critical skills these days,” said Lt. Helen Hall with the Buncombe County Sheriff’s Office. “We want to help everyone learn how to safeguard their information, spot potential signs of trouble early, and minimize the damage identity theft can cause.”

It’s a serious crime that can disrupt your finances, credit history, and reputation, and it takes time, money, and patience to resolve. Identity protection is a 21st century practice that can become habit. It requires thinking about your personal information as a valuable commodity and treating it with care.

July 9 is also Walgreens Senior Savings Day. Adults 55 and over will receive 15 percent off their entire purchase and 20 percent off all Walgreens Products. See store manager for more details.
