Buncombe County Soil & Water Conservation District held its annual seedling and plant sale March 5-6, 2020. The District ordered 11,450 plants of which it sold 11,175. The remaining 275 trees were donated to Asheville School for a reforestation project on campus.
Staff was concerned having the sale with COVID-19 on the horizon, but Buncombe County residents stepped up and supported Environmental Education. The District made a net profit of $5,642.24 during the two-day sales event.
We greatly appreciate our Assistant County Manager Sybil Tate, along with Permits and Inspections Director Matt Stone and SWCD Board Chairman Gary Higgins. They all rolled their sleeves up and spent the day planting, transporting, and organizing seedlings for the sale.
Thanks to everyone that purchased plants and seedlings. If there is a native species of hardwood, evergreen, or fruit you would like to see offered at next year’s sale, please email Taira Lance, firstname.lastname@example.org.
