High Windy Trail

Enjoy beautiful scenery along the Blue Ridge Parkway and breathtaking views of eastern Buncombe County by joining us on a hike. 

Hike locations were chosen due to their moderate difficulty so that anyone and everyone can get out and enjoy the beautiful scenery. Participants are led by an experienced guide and the pace is set to the pace of the participants.

  • The High Windy hike is a challenge hike, it is a 7.4 mile hike and difficult as you will be climbing 1600 feet in 2.5 miles.

The top of High Windy provides a view of the Swannanoa River valley including the town of Black Mountain, the Seven Sisters ridge to Graybeard Mountain and the high mountains of the Blue Ridge Parkway to the north. Other view spots on the trail overlook parts of Fairview and the Swannanoa Valley.

Buncombe County Recreation Services hikes are being held in conjunction with Go Hike NC and Blue Cross Blue Shield of North Carolina. These hikes are a continuing effort to offer experiences for residents who are new to outdoor recreation and is in conjunction with our Buncombe Outdoors Initiative.
