There have recently been concerns about verifying patient Medicaid eligibility in NCTRACKS.
Current Situation
The State is currently working to address technical issues resulting in communication errors between the NCTRACKS and NC FAST systems that are causing delays with the eligibility verification process.
Buncombe County Health and Human Services staff have and will continue to work diligently to process applications and assist clients with any concerns they may have.
What Providers Can Do
We encourage providers to continue to deliver services to Buncombe County community members, particularly to those with life-threatening or chronic health conditions. HHS staff members can verify the eligibility status of Medicaid applicants with a certified letter or confirmation over the phone. Currently, we can’t guarantee payment until the issues with the system are resolved.
Buncombe County Health and Human Services (BCHHS), Community Care of Western NC, Western Carolina Medical Society (WCMS) and local health providers care about the health and safety of the people who live and work in this community and know we must work together to ensure that we do not turn away those who trust us most with their health care needs.
We want to make providers aware that the interface problems of NCTRACKS and NC Fast are beyond the control of counties and we can work together across our local community to more effectively advocate for improvements that address inefficiencies with the eligibility and payment process.

What Clients Can Do
We encourage clients to continue to work with their Health and Human Services caseworker by providing the required documents to verify eligibility. BC HHS staff will respond to concerns clients have and advocate for a variety of strategies to improve the functioning and timeliness of the NC FAST and NCTRACKS systems.
