Baby Gym Returns for Summer

Get ready for some serious fun! The WILDLY popular free Baby Gym program returns with playtime to prepare little ones ages 0-3 for lives of exploration and adventure. The summer session features baby- and toddler-sized toys, tunnels, balls, climbing structures, and more active indoor fun. Classes will take place in Pack Memorial Library from 11 a.m.-noon on Tuesdays, June 4-Aug. 13 (except for July 16). Baby Gym is a joint program of Buncombe County’s Libraries and Recreation Services departments.

“Kids who establish healthy lifestyle patterns at a young age will carry them – and their benefits – forward for the rest of their lives,” according to Mac Stanley of Buncombe County Recreation Services. “Socialization, mental stimulation, and just being silly are all important from the earliest stage of life through adolescence, adulthood, and our later years. Baby Gym is an inclusive environment that allows for safe crawling, climbing, spinning, communication, and cooperative play.”

The Baby Gym program incorporates components that support development of the whole child and whole environment to progress physical skills development, encourage cooperation and creativity, and reinforce positive interactions between children through dynamic and fun experiences. Kids are encouraged to explore, so activities are unstructured in and environment with clear visibility and supervision. Parents are required to remain on-site during the program.

Baby Story Time takes place in the same building at 10:30 a.m., so participants are welcome to enjoy both free programs. A waiver is required to part in Baby Gym.
