Parks & Rec Month Employee Spotlight: Lynn Pegg

By CAYLA intern Doni Palma-Roberto

Imagine you are at a kids’ fishing tournament, and all of a sudden a kid cheers as they catch their first fish! That’s the excitement Lynn Pegg felt when she first witnessed the rewards from programming community events such as fishing tournaments. As we continue profiling County staff for National Parks and Recreation Month, this week we are highlighting Recreation Program Manager Lynn Pegg.

Name: Lynn Pegg

Position: Recreation Program Manager

Lynn is an exemplary manager whose job deals with a variety of things. From managing capital projects and special events to helping with the Special Olympics and assisting the Director, her job entails a bit of everything. She started her journey working with Buncombe County 27 years ago in the county’s Child Care Services. Later on, she started working for Recreation Services and is currently in her fifteenth year.

What she likes most about her job is seeing people enjoying parks. Her work with the Community Garden makes fresh vegetables accessible to people in a fun and engaging way. Looking ahead, Lynn says, “The future looks great, people like to be more active now.” With people wanting to be outdoors more often after the pandemic, she hopes more park space can be available for people to go out and use. For example, the opening of the Enka Recreation Destination Sports Park gives people the opportunity to go outside and make the most out of the greenways.

Of course, all of these events wouldn’t be possible without her team. As Lynn says, “There’s a lot of behind the scenes work,” referring to accomplishing a delightful experience for residents. Lastly, Lynn wants the public to know Recreation Services works closely to make enjoyable recreation events for the community.
