Hidden History of Asheville Book Release

From Buncombe County Libraries:

The milestones of Asheville’s long history are well known to locals, but many interesting stories are all but forgotten. Thankfully, the staff and volunteers of the North Carolina Room at Pack Memorial library have unearthed the best of those hidden gems. Meet daredevil aviatrix Uva Shipman. Or Tempie Avery, who went from slavery to respected nurse and citizen. Learn the poignant tale behind the death of former mayor Gallatin Roberts, and uncover the parts of Asheville long lost to the wrecking ball.

Join the North Carolina Room staff as we present the Hidden History of Asheville, published by Arcadia’s History Press and compiled by NC Room Librarian Zoe Rhine. The book release party will be Wednesday, July 31 at 6 p.m. at Pack Memorial Library, and everyone is invited.

This book can be purchased at Malaprops in downtown Asheville, from Amazon, or in the North Carolina Room at Pack Library. All proceeds benefit the Friends of the North Carolina Room.
