Book Jam: Rock Out at Summer Library Fest - June 2

Summer Library Festival

School’s (almost) out for summer, but the library is open and ready to rock your reading list. There’s no better way to kick off your summer reading tour than with the Libraries Rock - Summer Library Festival on Saturday, June 2, 10 a.m. - noon at the Oakley Park (Behind the Oakley Library). No need for a backstage pass, just get the band together so you can enjoy the following Summer Library Festival greatest hits:

  • Concert by Girls Rock Asheville.
  • Construction vehicles from NCDOT.
  • Cool rock exhibit from the Asheville Museum of Science.
  • Arts and crafts featuring your chance to make kazoos and harmonicas.
  • Relay races, boulder toss, bubbles, chalk drawings, and other awesome games.
  • Selfie booth with cool props for you and your bandmates.
  • Get your picture made into a poster for a Countywide Library campaign.

After going on a whirlwind tour of those awesome activities, make sure to get your gear for the Summer Reading Program. But don’t be a one-hit wonder because if you stay on top of the charts there’s a reward waiting for you. Here’s what you need to know about how the Summer Reading Program works:

  • The program runs June 1-Aug. 31.
  • It’s open to Buncombe County Library Card holders who are rising high school seniors or younger.
  • Get a stamp card and collect a stamp each time you visit the library to check out a book or for any other reason you cruise into the library.
  • After you have four stamps you can claim your reward! Visit any library branch, turn in your card, and get a free book from the Summer Reading crate featuring a variety of reading levels and books in Spanish.
  • Keep reading and visiting the library.

It’s that simple to turn your summer up to 11 (Sorry kids, that reference is for your parents). If you have any questions about the Libraries Rock – Summer Library Festival or the Summer Reading Program, please contact your local library branch.
