Summer Reading Programs Taking Place in June

Every summer, libraries across the country take part in the Summer Reading Program to help keep kids interested in reading and education throughout the summer months without school. This year's theme is "On Your Mark...Get Set...Read!" and features many fun, active, and brain-exercising activities for kids. Here are just a handful of events coming up in June:

  • White Oak Martial Arts - Karate for Kids
  • Tuesday, June 21 at 4:30PM
  • North Asheville Library
  • Learn the basics with Master Instructor Derek Croley. It's a fun way for kids to learn focus, self-discipline, and self-defense skills. It's for ages 5 - 13.
  • Asheville Tourist Story Time
  • Friday, June 24 at 10:30AM
  • Fairview Library
  • If your kids love baseball and stories, then they won't want to miss this fun story time featuring Asheville Tourist players, and the mascot itself, Mr. Moon!
  • Tropical Connections with the N.C. Museum of Natural Science
  • Tuesday, June 28 at 1PM
  • East Asheville Library
  • Limited to 25 participants, so please sign up for your free ticket at the East Asheville Branch. It's a great science program for ages 5 & up!
  • Jump Two: Tinkling
  • Wednesday, June 29 at 10:30AM
  • Black Mountain Library
  • Discover the traditional Philippine dance which originated during the Spanish colonial era. The dance involves two people beating, tapping, and sliding bamboo poles on the ground and against each other in coordination.
