Literacy Council Spelling Bee on April 11

On April 11, Pack Memorial Library will send a team of superstar librarians to compete in the Literacy Council of Buncombe County's annual Spelling Bee. The Spelling Bee is a rollicking good time, an exciting and memorable evening of word fun, entertainment and fundraising.

The theme of this year’s bee is “Bring it to the Bee.” With this spirit club theme, spectators will enjoy performances by local cheerleaders and baton twirlers with an intermission show from the Warren Wilson Step Club. Free refreshments are provided as well as random prizes for those who embrace the spirit of the Bee and show up in costume. Host David Ostergaard of LaZoom will ensure that it is the most talked about fundraiser of the season.

The Bee takes place in Ferguson Auditorium on the AB Tech Campus, beginning at 6:30pm on Thursday, April 11. Tickets are $5 at the door, so grab your pom-poms and be there. You won’t want to miss this!

With your help, our librarians are going to spell their hearts out. The Pack Memorial Library team, generously sponsored by the Friends of the Buncombe County Public Library will be spelling these words, so that you don’t have to. Please, come cheer them on or make a donation to support the Library’s team. Donations to the team will be used purchase “cheats.”  Spellers will be able to ask for hints or even purchase a new word in a pinch during the Spelling Bee with the funds they raise.

Please see both the literacy council website and our team fundraising page to make a donation or for more information. All proceeds from this event go directly to support the Literacy Council. Thank you for helping the Buncombe County Public Libraries Bring it to the Bee!
