According to a recent article in the Asheville Citizen-Times, there are a number of ways to help improve our roadsides.
Individuals, families or organizations can volunteer to maintain a section of highway under the NC Department of Transportation "Adopt a Highway" program. Last year, these groups cleaned 12,000 miles of roadway.
To volunteer, simply call 1-800-331-5864 and they can tell you how to get started.
If you see someone littering, fill out an online "Swat-a-Litterbug" form from the NCDOT website, call 1-800-331-5864 for a mail-in card or call 877-DOT-4YOU and NCDOT will notify the litterer they have been spotted.
