Asbestos Information

A permit is required for all removal of asbestos from any residential, commercial or public building. The Western North Carolina Regional Air Quality Agency regulates demolitions and asbestos removal under two different set of regulations. The Federal Asbestos National Emission Standards for Hazardous Air Pollutants regulations govern all public or commercial building demolitions and the removal of federally regulated asbestos materials from public or commercial buildings. All renovations or demolition on commercial or public buildings must be assessed by a North Carolina certified asbestos inspector prior to demolition or renovation.

Local regulations govern the demolition of residential structures and removal of non-federally regulated asbestos from public, commercial, or residential structures.
