Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Where do I register my child for soccer?

The Asheville-Buncombe Youth Soccer Association (ABYSA) can be reached at (828)255-8300. Their office is located at the Pepsi Indoor Soccer Center beside the Holiday Inn Sunspree Resort across the French Broad River from downtown Asheville next to the Westgate Shopping Center.

Q: Do you have a dog park? No.

Q: Are there other parks and recreation departments in Buncombe County?

Yes. The City of Asheville Parks and Recreation Department (828)259-5800 and the Black Mountain Recreation and Parks Department (828)669-2052

Q: Where can I rent a picnic shelter?

Lake Julian - Enjoy family reunions, outdoor meetings, birthday parties or any type of outdoor events at a Lake Julian picnic shelter. These shelters can accommodate both individual families and large groups. Two large picnic shelters can accommodate approximately 75 people and three small picnic shelters can each seat approximately 25 - 35 people. Please call 684-0376 or email parks@buncombecounty.org.

Buncombe County Sports Park - The Buncombe County Sports Park features seven (7) soccer fields, a walking trail, volleyball court, playground, concession stand and restrooms. Shelter rental is $50 per day. Please call (282) 250-4260 or email parks@buncombecounty.org.

Q: Why do most of the outdoor pools close in early August when it is still so hot outside?

We lose the majority of our lifeguards since schools in Buncombe County usually begins in early to mid August (as well as most universities and colleges). We would really like to keep all six outdoor pools open because of the weather. However, we do try to keep one to two pools open on Saturdays and Sundays through the month of August. Again, this depends on the number of lifeguards available once school begins.
