Lake Julian Fishing Tournament Named to 'Best Of' List

FishingBooker recently published its picks for the top U.S. tournaments for young anglers and the Lake Julian Park Kids Fishing Tournament landed on the list. Of the twice-yearly tournament, the world’s largest online marketplace for fishing trips writes:

“The Lake Julian Park fishing tournament is a cool, catch-and-release competition, where kids can have fun and win awesome prizes. There are lots of opportunities to win, with categories like Biggest Fish, Smallest Fish, Most Fish Caught, and Most Accurate Casting Skills.

The competitors will be able to fish anywhere within the park limits, but they will need to be accompanied by an adult at all times. Before they make their first cast, the kids will receive a bucket, bait, and snacks for the three-hour event. After the reeling is over, the official weigh-ins will start, after which there will be hot dogs for everyone.”

The fishing tournament is one of many low- or no-cost special events hosted by Recreation Services as a way to improve the quality of life in Buncombe County by providing high quality recreational facilities, opportunities for social interaction, and programming which encourages health and wellness through active lifestyles.

“Fishing builds confidence, improves coordination, teaches patience, and encourages an appreciation of nature,” said Mac Stanley, Outdoors Coordinator for Buncombe County Recreation Services. “This tournament is a great way to introduce our younger residents to healthier lifestyles and decrease screen time – at least for a little while.”
