Led by UNC Asheville professors Trey Adcock, Reid Chapman and Sarah Judson, Reclaiming Sacred Ground: Native American Self-Representation in Film is a 4-part film and discussion series at the West Asheville Library.
The Fast Runner is the third film in the series. Based on a 1,000 year old story of romantic tensions within a small Inuit community, this film tells an epic tale of love, betrayal, family, and survival played out against the harsh and barren landscape of the Far North. The late Roger Ebert described the film as "passion, filtered through ritual and memory." Recording an ancient way of life that still exists within living memory, The Fast Runner is the first film produced in the Inuit language, with an Inuit cast and crew. Running time is 172 minutes; with discussion to follow.
Contact the West Asheville library at 250-4750 for information. This program is free and the public is invited. The last in this series will be: April 23 - The Cherokee Word for Water at Pack Library.
