Uplifting the Race: E.W. Pearson & the Colored Agricultural Fair

E. W. PearsonDr. Darin Waters (History Dept, UNC Asheville) will speak at the West Asheville Library and share the fascinating and significant story of E.W. Pearson and the Colored Agricultural Fair.

The Fair will be discussed in the context of African American life in Asheville in the early decades of the 20th century. Pearson and the Burton Street Community founded the Fair in 1913 in West Asheville; it eventually became one of the largest such fairs in the Southeast. The historic Fair has been revived by the Burton Street Neighborhood Association, and Mrs. Vivian Conley will give details of this year's Fair.
