The Buncombe County Department of Health’s Dental Clinic has moved to Western North Carolina Community Health Services (WNCCHS). The WNCCHS Dental Clinic is located at 257 Biltmore Avenue. For questions about these services or to make an appointment, please call 285-0622.
The Buncombe County Department of Health does provide preventive dental screening and education, as well as dental sealants.
Buncombe County Department of Health Dental Programs:
Smart Start Dental Program
- Pre-school children learn about dental health while enjoying a puppet show about caring for their teeth. Later, they have their teeth screened by a dental hygienist.
- Helps parents find needed dental care for their children.
- Child care facilities can receive educational supplies for in-classroom tooth brushing and education sessions.
Elementary School Dental Screening, Assessment, and Referral
Dental screenings are scheduled in conjunction with all Buncombe County and Asheville City elementary schools’ annual health fairs, which occur in the fall of each school year. Grades that are currently screened are kindergarten, second grade, and selected fifth grade classes. Students determined to need immediate dental treatment are referred to their School Nurse who will assist parents in obtaining dental care for their child.
Second Grade Dental Sealant and Oral Health Education Program
The Children’s Dental Sealant program provides sealants and basic oral health education to 2nd grade students in targeted Asheville City and Buncombe County Schools. The program operates through strong community partnership with AB Tech, Eblen Kimmel Charities, and many community dentists and their dental staff.
