Task Force 2 Team Deploys for Dorian

It takes a special person to leave behind your family, friends, and safety to travel into the unknown. As a member of  USAR Task Force 2, some of Buncombe County's bravest will head toward the front lines of the Hurricane Dorian assistance effort. On the morning of Tuesday, Sept. 3, they packed up their equipment and deployed to Bladen County, NC. This is the first time Taskforce 2 has deployed a Type III team that includes both structural and water rescue components.

The North Carolina Urban Search and Rescue Task Force 2 is made up of personnel from Buncombe County Emergency Management and fire departments from the city and county. The deployed team includes 30 fully trained team members from Buncombe County Emergency Services, Upper Hominy Fire Department, West Buncombe Fire Department, Weaverville Fire Department, Skyland Fire Department, Jupiter Fire Department, Enka Candler Fire Department, Fairview Fire Department, and Riceville Fire Department.

Task Force 2 is fully equipped to take on all sorts of missions and terrain including swift water rescue, mountain wilderness search and rescue, structural collapse, and trench rescue. Task Force 2’s primary response area is the western most counties of NC, but they can be deployed statewide. In 2016, they rescued over 200 survivors from Hurricane Matthew, and last year deployed to Bladen County to assist in Hurrican Florence rescue efforts.

We are keeping TF2 in our thoughts as they deploy. Stay safe.
