Margaret Hall Coman Honored

Margaret Hall Coman began her career with the Buncombe County Department of Public Welfare in 1940 as a caseworker.  She was promoted to supervisor in 1945, acting superintendent in 1946 and then appointed as the Director of the Department in 1961.  She served as Director until 1983 when she retired with a 43 year career in public service.

Ms. Coman was a dedicated, talented and loyal servant who treated everyone with respect and dignity throughout her entire career.

The County's property 40 Coxe Avenue has undergone extensive renovation in order to adequately house the County's Health and Human Service functions under one roof.  For many years, Ms. Coman dreamed of housing these functions together.

On August 7, the Commissioners voted to dedicate the home of County Health and Human Services on 40 Coxe Avenue in honor of Margaret Hall Coman.

On Tuesday, August 21 at 2 p.m. a plaque dedicating the building in honor of Ms. Coman will be unveiled.

The public is invited to attend.
