Sex Offender Registry
The Buncombe County Sheriff's Office works diligently to register and track convicted sex offenders for the safety of its citizens.
A detective assigned to the Criminal Investigations Division oversees the registry for Buncombe County by registering sex offenders, updating registration information, taking criminal charges for violators and arresting absconders.
Registration information is forwarded to the State Bureau of Investigation and is posted to the North Carolina Sex Offender and Public Protection Registry website. Search the offender database or learn more about sex offender registration requirements at the North Carolina Sex Offender and Public Protection Registry website.
On August 16, 2006, Governor Mike Easley signed into law changes to North Carolina's sex offender and public protection laws. Most of these changes became effective December 1, 2006. You can view the changes to the sex offender laws on the North Carolina General Assembly's website under Session Law 2006-247.
If you have information that a sex offender is living in Buncombe County and has not registered, or that a registered sex offender is no longer living at his/her registered address, contact the Buncombe County Sheriff's Office immediately.
