Arrive Alive Events at Area High Schools

The Partnership for Substance Free Youth in Buncombe County will be sponsoring Arrive Alive events at area high schools beginning April 4 at AC Reynolds High School. The Arrive Alive program is an initiative of UNITE International, whose mission is to make communities aware of the dangers and consequences of drunk driving and distracted driving.

The Arrive Alive program is an all-day event that gives students a real-life experience of driving drunk and distracted driving by utilizing the DUI/DWI simulator. Students will also have the opportunity to take the Picture Pledge, a pledge that students sign promising never to drive drunk or distracted, and to sign up for UNITE International’s Continual Awareness Education Program.

The Buncombe County Sheriff’s Office Detention Prevention Team will be at several of the dates listed below. The Detention Prevention Team is made up of Buncombe County Sheriff’s deputies that tour the county to help educate young people about the consequences of poor choices. The program was designed to encourage young people to think before they act, use common sense and good judgment to make decisions and come to law enforcement if they need help.

Arrive Alive programs are scheduled at the following schools for the next two weeks:

• April 4 - Reynolds High School
• April 5 - Asheville High School
• April 8 - Erwin High School
• April 9 - TC Roberson High School
• April 10 - Owen High School
• April 11 - Enka High School
• April 12 - North Buncombe High School
