Death Certificates of those who die in Buncombe County
are on file in this office. The Death Certificates are
sent to this office from the Health Department, and
date back to the early 1900's. You may obtain copies
of these records, either certified or uncertified copies.
If you wish to obtain a Certified Death Certificate,
(one with a seal) we require you to complete our application
form for a Vital Record according to G.S. 161.10. (Insert
Application Form) This application requires your name,
relation to the applicant, and your address. You may
come to the office, or submit a written request by printing
and filling out the form listed below.
N. C. Law allows us to issue Certified DEATH Certificates
ONLY to the following:
- Immediate family such as:
- Your spouse
- brother
- sister
- child
- step child
- grand child
- your parent
- step
- or grand parent.
- The law also allows anyone seeking information
for legal determination of personal or property right
or someone authorized as an agent, attorney, or legal
representative of the person who's certificate is
being requested.
