Buncombe County Parks & Recreation Services
Advisory Board
The Buncombe County Recreation Services Advisory Board is
an organization with the purpose to promote advise and assist
the Recreation Services Department. This includes but is not
limited to:
- Assist with communicating plans, goals, and purpose to
the public, government officials and other individuals and
agencies.
- Assist with the development of new funding sources for
the department.
- Assist with the development of long range planning for
programs and facilities.
- Promote community awareness.
- Oversee community grant process. Review and make recommendations
of proposed community projects as outlined in the procedural
policy.
- Assist other recognized advisory groups within the department
as requested.
The members of the Advisory Board are appointed by the Buncombe
County Board of Commissioners. They shall consist of 11 members
representing the following areas:
- One from each County School District
- One member who is a resident of the City of Asheville
- Two members-at-large
- One member appointed by the Friends of the WNC Nature
Center
- One representative from the Greens Committee from the
Buncombe County Golf Course
- Sam Banks, Co-chairman - (Reynolds District)
- David Begley, Co-chairman - (Owen District)
- Winikay Caffrey - (North Buncombe District)
- Greg Jones - (Erwin District)
- Rodney Mangum - (Roberson District)
- Larry Wilson - (Enka District)
- Chuck Milner - (Member At-Large)
- Adam Pittman - (Member At Large)
- Dave Torbett - (Member At-Large)
- 4:00 pm 2nd Wednesday of each month
