Oakley Farmer's Market Gets New Home

As the Oakley Farmers Market enters its fifth season, its board of directors has some big news to share. The market, which originated and has operated for the past four years in the parking lot behind Oakley United Methodist Church, will launch this spring at a new location – ScreenDoor at 115 Fairview Road.

According to market manager Lexi Binns-Craven, the move the ScreenDoor parking lot, which borders Biltmore Village and faces Fairview Road, is intended to provide greater visibility to Oakley Farmers Market vendors. “We are sad to be leaving our original location at Oakley United Methodist Church,” says Binns-Craven. “However, based on vendor and customer feedback, the move was needed in order to allow the market to thrive. We are excited about the changes ahead in the 2016 season and look forward to the relationships we'll be able to build in our new location.”

This season, the market will take place 3:30-6:30 p.m. Thursdays May 5 – Sept. 29. New and returning vendors are welcome to apply to participate. The early-bird deadline for submission of applications is March 31. A vendor meeting and site walk-through will take place prior to the season kick-off, with a date to be announced soon.

Market days will continue to be lively, kid-friendly community events. Each week, customers can expect to find fresh, organic, locally produced vegetables; fruit; meat; eggs; mushrooms and dairy products along with handmade baked goods, natural body care products and craft items made by local artisans. The market also plans to bring a selection of local food trucks back this season.

Volunteers are needed to help with planning and coordination as well as with various tasks on market days. The market is also seeking local businesses and individuals to partner as sponsors.
