Join musician Brie Capone and podcaster Ron Taylor at North Asheville Library at 6pm on Tuesday, March 5th for a live recording of WNC Original Music, a podcast that showcases original music from the vast array of talented musicians throughout western North Carolina.
WNC Original Music features live recordings, studio sessions, and interviews from individuals and groups in the area, and this episode will highlight Asheville singer/songwriter Brie Capone, who has performed at venues nationwide. Capone's influences range from Joni Mitchell and Bonnie Raitt to Ryan Adams and Dawes as she creates her sound, which is known for belting vocals and heartfelt, introspective lyricism.

Join instructor Darleen Benson as she leads six-session series of chair yoga classes intended specifically for seniors. A yoga teacher with almost forty years of experience, Darleen will lead the class in a beginner-friendly routine designed to increase strength, flexibility, and balance while learning natural body postures that fight pain and promote mobility. Class sessions will take place at 2pm on Thursdays from March 7th through April 11th. As always, the program is free and open to the public.

With a goal of bringing public awareness to the struggles of returning to civilian life that affect many veterans, the students from Cane Creek Middle School’s Destination Imagination Project Outreach Team will present an afternoon program at the library on Saturday, March 9th at 3pm. In attendance will be two Vietnam veterans and authors. They will give a reading from Brothers Like These: Vietnam War Veterans Poems & Prose. The reading will be followed by a performance of a short play written and performed by the students inspired by interviews they have done with different veterans.

A fun drawing class that doesn't take itself seriously, learn to draw figures, objects, and draw from your thoughts. Listen to a selected album and draw what you hear, have a timed switch draw with other people in the class and see what is created. Materials are supplied or bring your own drawing materials!
This free program is for adults and will be held in our auditorium downstairs. If you cannot make the full 2 hours, come when you can! Please be sure to sign up so we have enough supplies for everyone and the instructor can prepare properly.

We are continuing our Mental Health Series for Seniors. On March 14 at 3pm, Joanne DeSarle a RN will present at the Enka-Candler Library “Living with Dementia.” Commonly known as dementia, neurocognitive disorders can affect the way people perceive and engage with the world around them. This program will look at various classifications of neurocognitive disorders and common changes associated with each type. Tips for caregiving are provided. From 6-8pm on March 19th, Ammerman will be teaching the basics of alcohol inks to small groups of students at 30-minute intervals. All materials are provided for free, and students will leave with their own decorative tile. Alcohol inks stain, so gloves and work-clothes or apron are suggested. This drama is based on a true story, which explores the issue of capital punishment. Sister Helen Prejean is a nun and teacher living in rural Louisiana. One day, she receives a letter from Matthew Poncelet, who is scheduled to be executed. When it becomes obvious that Matthew's sentence will be carried out, Sister Helen offers what comfort she can to Matthew, but also tries to guide him to an open admission of the extent of his crimes and an acceptance of divine forgiveness. Starring Susan Sarandon and Sean Penn, the film is directed by Tim Robbins and based on Prejean's book Dead Man Walking: An Eyewitness Account of the Death Penalty in the United States.
This free film is rated R and is approximately 2 hours long.
