Prenatal Health
The
Primary Care Clinic provides comprehensive Prenatal services
for expectant parents, which include lab testing, office visits,
ultrasounds, non-stress testing, education, and referrals.
When it is time for delivery, the physician at Mountain Area
Health Education Center (MAHEC) will care for the new mother
and baby at Mission-St. Joseph's Health Center. After delivery,
the Health Center can continue to provide care for the new
mother as well as her baby.
In addition, pregancy testing is provided at no charge to
any woman requesting this service. No appointment is needed
for a pregancy test.

| How
to get an appointment for Prenatal Services |
|
|
After verification of pregnancy, the client is scheduled for
a Prenatal History appointment and a Prenatal Physical appointment.
Thereafter, she is scheduled for her next appointment at the
end of each visit with the doctor. If the client has an urgent
problem, she can call 250-5000 and will likely be seen that
day.
Post-partum checks are due six weeks after delivery. Clients
who have previously been seen for prenatal services at the
Health Center should call six weeks after their delivery date
for a post-partum appointment, which usually can be scheduled
within 48 hours.
New babies should generally be seen 2 weeks after birth.
Parents are encouraged to call shortly after the baby is born
to schedule this appointment. We have appointment slots reserved
for newborn check-ups to assure that all infants are seen
at the recommended time.

| What
to bring with you |
|
|
When you come in for an appointment at the Health Center,
make sure to bring any insurance information you have including
your Medicaid card or other insurance card. Please bring proof
of your current income. This could be a recent pay stub, bank
statement, or other document that shows your current household
income. This is to help us determine what portion of the charges
for your visit you may be asked to pay.
Also be sure to bring any Medical Records you may have. This
will help us provide you with the best possible care.
|
| How
are services paid for? |
|
|
Clinical services accept self-pay, Medicaid, Medicare and
private insurance. Most services are provided on a sliding
fee scale and eligible participants may receive care at no
charge (fees are based on family size and income).
