Every Friday from now until May, dental sealants will be available to second graders at no cost to the children, their families or the schools.
The Eblen Dental Sealant Program is open to all second-graders in the Asheville City and Buncombe County Schools who are in need of sealants and whose molars are ready and show no decay. There is no financial eligibility or requirement to be able to receive the sealants.
When: Every Friday from now until May
Where: A-B Tech College Dental Clinic on 10 Genevieve Circle, in the Allied Health and Workforce Development Building on the Asheville campus.

What’s a Dental Sealant?
Dental sealants are thin coatings that when painted on the chewing surfaces of the back teeth (molars) can prevent cavities (tooth decay) for many years. Sealants protect the chewing surfaces from cavities by covering them with a protective shield that blocks out germs and food. Once applied, sealants protect against 80% of cavities for 2 years and continue to protect against 50% of cavities for up to 4 years.1 Children aged 6 to 11 years without sealants have almost three times more first molar cavities than children with sealants.
