School
Based Health Centers
The goal of Buncombe County School Based Health Centers
is to keep students well and healthy. Healthy students learn
better. When students are well they miss fewer days, perform
better and have the best chance for a bright future.
School Based Health Centers work with students, parents,
school staff and primary care providers to give the type
of care and guidance adolescents need most. We encourage
students to take care of themselves and to make better decisions
for their overall well-being.
All of our services require parent permission for students
to be seen .We link with the school staff to help students
succeed in school. School Based Health Centers improve access
to health care all teens, helping reduce the number of missed
school days and taking the strain off parents who have to
miss work to take their children to the doctor.
Teens are the least likely age group to seek health care,
yet they engage in behaviors that can be harmful to their
health. By making health care available right in the school,
we help make sure students get the health care services they
need to become and remain healthy.
Teens without health insurance rarely get routine health
care. Because of our School based Health Centers, students
receive the health care they need regardless of their ability
to pay.
