Childbirth Education Classes

Childbirth classes are provided by Mission Hospital and Supported by Buncombe County Health & Human Services. Current class offerings are continually being updated, and are located on their website at

Classes include:

  • A free 2 hour orientation session (“Preparing for Your Baby’s Birth Day”) class offers patients the opportunity to hear details on what to expect upon arrival to Mission for delivery, navigating parking/getting to the correct areas, services and amenities at Mission, and an overview of basic childbirth education.  An on-line tour is shown during the class, and a personal tour is offered at the end of the session if needed.
  • For those desiring more detailed childbirth education, an On-Line Childbirth Education Program ($99) is available for purchase through the website.  The feedback on this class has been excellent, with mothers-to-be saying they love the detailed information that they can review as many times as they wish, and appreciate that the class can be taken when most convenient for them, and shared with their caregivers.
  • Mothers may also sign up for The Parent Review, a free weekly e-mail newsletter provided by Mission that includes valuable tips and information from conception until their child is 3 years old.
  • Two-hour Safe Babies Classes for any care-givers are available as well ($20).  The class is taught by a Safe Kids Worldwide educator, and covers general child safety topics including home safety, safe sleep, choking and suffocation hazards, car seat safety, and CPR/rescue breathing review.
