Explore Your Story: Enka-Candler Library is Your Passport to Imagination

Get transported to faraway worlds filled with captivating characters, heroic heroines, fantastic figments, and more with a multitude of story time opportunities at the Enka-Candler Library. It’s a chance for children of all ages (and adults who are children at heart) to experience the joy and satisfaction of well-crafted tales. Beyond the entertainment value, research shows children who actively engage in early childhood reading are better prepared for school and tend to be lifelong readers. The Enka-Candler Library has weekly story times specifically for toddlers, preschoolers, Spanish-speaking children, adult book clubs and more.

“We also have a permanent Make & Do Station where kids can make a different craft each month or build something new,” says Branch Manager Leisa Stamey, noting there’s also a monthly Guessing Jar that is a popular feature among patrons.

In addition to being a place to start children on their path of a lifetime of reading, the Enka-Candler branch serves as a community hub with digital and analog resources alike. Get connected to the internet, browse DVD selections, check out the on-going book sale, and make yourself comfortable with your media of choice in the cozy indoor area.

Here’s a sampling of story time and other opportunities available at the Enka-Candler branch:

  • Spanish story time every Monday at 10:30 a.m.
  • Toddler story time every Thursday at 10:30 a.m.
  • Preschool story time every Wednesday at 10:30 a.m.
  • LEGO Builders’ Club the first Friday of every month at 4 p.m.
  • And check the calendar for therapy dog reading sessions, adult book clubs, and more.

Along with the branch’s story-centric focus, it’s also one of the most unique buildings in the Buncombe County Library portfolio. “Our branch stands out from other branches because we have a storefront window that is used for displays each month,” notes Stamey. “These are often interactive, such as the current display featuring banned books where patrons can guess why it may have been challenged in the past.”
