Well it's May in Asheville, which means the third Friday of every month will be Downtown After 5 on North Lexington Avenue. So if you love a great crowd, great food, great drinks, and great music, definitely come downtown to check it out. The May 20th Downtown After 5 will feature the Jeff Thompson Band and CHA WA.
Musical Acts
- The Jeff Thompson Band
- Thompson is a singer, songwriter, guitarist, and performer. He plays a blend of Jazz, Rock, New Orleans, and Asheville. His music has been compared to Jeff Buckley, Martin Sexton, John Mayer, Nick Drank, and Jason Mraz.
- CHA WA
- CHA WA combines deep funk, percussive polyrhythms, and a mix of singing and Mardi Gras Indian chanting. All of these elements fuse into an intoxicating, hypnotic blend of culture that could only come out of the Crescent City. “Cha Wa” is a slang phrase used by every Mardi Gras Indian tribe. It means “We’re comin’ for ya” - and this band is definitely comin’ for ya!

To purchase alcohol, attendees must first purchase a $2 wristband. Proceeds from wristband sales go to an area nonprofit. May's nonprofit partner is Asheville Greenworks, an urban environmental conservation organization working to enhance the community through educational and volunteer based environmental programs.
