Call to ARTIST, Submissions wanted!

Request for Proposals:

Buncombe County seeks to commission a work of art that will provide recognition to financial supporters of the Family Justice Center while helping to create a warm and welcoming environment in the lobby.

About the Family Justice Center:

Buncombe County’s Family Justice Center will be a one-stop location for victims of domestic violence and sexual assault to access a range of government and community services under one roof. Clients will be coming to the Family Justice Center to access services such as crisis intervention, therapy, forensic medical exams, legal services, protective services, court and law enforcement support, and more. Buncombe County’s Family Justice Center will be centrally located in downtown Asheville at 35 Woodfin Street and is scheduled to open in mid-2016.

Format:

The work of art will be a permanent, interior installation. It will be mounted on a wall that is 13’ wide

by 11’ high. Recommended proportions are approximately 4-6’ wide by 4-6’ high or larger. It must be made of long lasting, durable, fire resistant materials. The piece can contain images and must prominently display the names or logos of approximately 10 sponsors of the project in dimensions such that the design or image element is prominent. Media such as glass, metal, clay or will be considered. Installation will be the responsibility of Buncombe County General Services with consultation from the artist.

Attributes:

The art piece should express strength, safety and hope and reflect the culture of the county. It may

incorporate motif or color elements from the Family Justice Center logo. This image depicts leaf shapes connecting in the center. That connection represents togetherness and a team approach. Each color is a different agency available to assist with specific needs and a diversity of approaches working together as a team to help the whole family. The path running through represents a way to strength, safety and hope.

Budget:

A budget not to exceed $5,000 is available for materials and construction. Installation costs not included.
