Tall Tales with Donald Davis - January 22

Join us for an evening of tall tales with The Dean of Storytelling, Donald Davis. This free program will be presented by the Friends of the Photo of Donald DavidFairview Library on Tuesday, January 22 at 7 p.m. in the Fairview Christian Fellowship Church just behind Fairview Library.

Donald Davis was born in Waynesville, NC to a Southern Appalachian mountain world rich in stories. "I didn't learn stories, I just absorbed them," he says as he recounts tales learned from a family of traditional storytellers who have lived on the same land since 1781.

Davis grew up hearing gentle fairy tales, silly Jack tales, scary mountain lore, ancient Welsh and Scottish folktales, and, most importantly, the nourishing true-to-life stories of his own neighbors and kin.

A retired Methodist minister, Donald has been featured at the World's Fair, the Smithsonian Institution, the National Storytelling Festival and on NPR. For Donald Davis storytelling "is not what I do for a living...it is how I do all that I do while I am living."
