Have you ever wanted to learn a craft, such as basket making, crocheting, decorating a wreath, etc., but you weren't really sure where to start? We can help!
Beginning in the 1950’s the NC Cooperative Extension begin offering handcraft workshops throughout WNC. Although many families in our area were already knowledgeable and skilled in making quilts, baskets, and other handcrafts in their homes, the Extension workshops enabled them to learn the necessary skills to market their crafts.
With better marketing came the increase in demand from outside our area for quality handcrafts. The demand led to additional sales and increased family income. The added income resulted in a better life for many families in WNC.
With the success of our past handcraft workshops it is our hope that skills learned during the 2011 Heritage Skills Workshops may enable or assist today’s families to increase their income during our current economic times. The following classes will be offered:
- Iris Folding (half day)
- Chrismons (half day)
- Seed Bead Necklace (full day)
- Basket Making (full day)
- Beginners Crocheting (full day)
- Decorating the Perfect Wreath (half day)
- Decorating with Gourds (half day)
