The Special Needs Registry provides vital information to emergency responders in the event of a 911 call and/or during a widespread disaster (hurricane, flood, blizzard, extended power outage, disease outbreak). This program is voluntary and individuals on the registry have the option to accept or deny assistance. If there is a disaster or an emergency, those on the Special Needs Registry may be contacted, asked how they are doing, given information about shelters and/or how to prepare or respond to the disaster.
Individuals on the registry decide whether to accept assistance and should always be prepared to remain responsible for themselves in the event of an emergency. Registration in no way guarantees that the registered individual will receive immediate or preferential treatment in a disaster; however, all citizens with special needs are encouraged to register.
