From Animal House to Our House: Restoring an Abandoned Victorian Brownstone to Its Former Glory, a talk with author Ron Tanner, will be held Monday, May 6 at 7 p.m. in the Lord Auditorium, Pack Memorial Library. Admission is free and no pre-registration is needed.
Twelve years ago, Ron Tanner and his wife bought condemned property – a big 1897 Baltimore brownstone – and vowed to bring it back to its original glory. The house had been used by a fraternity for a decade and was filled with garbage. Ron and Jill knew nothing about fixing up old houses, but they learned as they went along and now live in their successfully renovated three-story Victorian home.
Ron’s book, From Animal House to Our House: A Love Story is a story for do-it-yourselfers and those who love old houses. Ron and Jill’s home was featured in This Old House magazine and they have a web site called houselove.org which offers how-to tips and more about their adventures in renovation.
Ron, now a licensed house inspector, will show before-and-after images of his restored Victorian brownstone, and offer advice and tips on home renovation. This program is sponsored by the Friends of Buncombe County Libraries.
