Transfer Station

Residential disposal & recycling services.

We are now accepting bulky waste such as furniture, mattresses, construction & demolition debris, any other large over-sized items, and bagged household garbage.

Please adhere to the following safety guidelines while onsite:

  • Remain in the immediate vicinity of your vehicle at all times; loitering is not permitted and extremely unsafe!
  • All children under the age of 15 MUST remain in the vehicle at all times
  • Wear close toed shoes and high visibility clothing

Transfer Station Disposal Rates

Solid Waste

  • 33-gallon bags of household waste with recyclables removed:
    • $2/bag
  • Less than 33-gallon bags:
    • $1/bag
  • Loads under 440 lbs @ $12 minimum

Residential Sharps Disposal

Buncombe County residential households can drop off 'sharps', such as needles and lancets for disposal. Please place sharps in an approved sharps container, available at pharmacies, or in a sturdy, thick-walled plastic jug with a secured lid or taped closed and labeled SHARPS.

NOTICE: NO BUSINESSES OR MEDICAL FACILITIES are permitted to use the sharps disposal area at the Transfer Station.

For Commercial/Franchise Haulers

All trucks, roll-offs, or flat bed (compacted or otherwise) of solid wastes which contain less than 5% by weight or volume of any of the following wastes will pay $52/Ton at the Transfer Station:

  • corrugated cardboard,
  • untreated wood products suitable for mulching,
  • concrete, cinder blocks, brick,
  • concrete with steel or any type metals

First violation above the 5% limit: $90/ton

  • Second violation or any subsequent violation occurring within 6 months of the first violation: $156/ton

    • 1st 10 tires $0.00
    • Each additional tire after 10, $2.00 per tire
    • All tires on rims $2.00 per tire
  • Textiles
    • Clothing, shoes, purses, other small textiles
    • Items must be clean, dry and bagged

Co-mingled Recyclables

  • Metal Cans - Aluminum, Steel, Tin, EMPTY Aerosol cans
  • Plastic - Bottles, Jugs, and Containers with recycling numbers #1 - #7 such as plastic yogurt containers, margarine tubs
    • Take Out Containers are not able to be recycled residentially at this time.
  • Glass - Bottles and Jars (clear, brown, green)
  • Aluminum - Pie Tins, Food Trays
  • Paper Cartons - Milk & Juice Cartons and Juice Boxes
  • Newspapers and inserts
  • Mixed Paper - Catalogs, Junk mail, Magazines, Cereal boxes, paper Egg Cartons, Envelopes, Manila envelopes, Office paper, Paper, Phone books, Glossy paper, Post-It-Notes, Brown paper bags, Paper towel rolls
    • Shredded Paper is not accepted in residential recycling at this time
