Every year students from all over the state participate in the Envirothon. It's mission is to provide and promote leadership in the knowledge of natural resources by offering a quality education program in: soil/land use, forestry, aquatic ecology, wildlife/habitat, and current issues to the teachers, students, and citizens of North Carolina.
At this year's regional meeting in Waynesville, students from 16 counties all over Western North Carolina participated. Students in teams of 5 research the different environmental topics, then at the competition, spend time with an expert in each field to learn as much as they can before the test.
Congratulations to the winners this year:
- Madison High School's Chocolate Mooses (Tied for 1st)
- Rosman High School's Straight Outta Dirt (Tied for 1st)
- Buncombe County's Green Mountain Boys (1st place)
