Recreation Services August Announcements

Buncombe County Recreation Services has a few announcements to make about all of your fun summer activities. So let’s check out the recreation bulletin board for August:

Pool Closings

  • Summer is coming to an end which means the pools will be closing soon. If you’re wondering why they close while it’s still hot outside, it’s because most of the lifeguards are school athletes, college students, and teachers – so there will be nobody there to keep you safe. The North Buncombe and Owen Pool will close August 7, Cane Creek and Hominy Valley Pools on August 14th, and the Erwin Pool will remain open until Labor Day weekend, September 5th.

Community Garden

  • The Sand Hill Community Garden is still growing strong. Over 500 pounds of fresh produce has already been harvest this season. The garden is always looking for more volunteers. Regular workdays at the garden are Wednesday evenings from 6pm – 8pm and Saturday mornings from 9am – 11am. Contact lynn.pegg@buncombecounty.org for more information.

Welcome Table Meal

  • Every Wednesday at the Leicester Community Center there is a free welcome table meal that is a joint effort from several local churches to provide anyone who is interested in great hot food and community fellowship.  It takes place between 1130am and 1pm.
