Be a HERO this Holiday Season

The Department of Health Immunization Clinic has received a shipment of intra-dermal influenza vaccine that may be given to any uninsured adult, ages 18-64, whose income is 200% of poverty and below.  This vaccine will be provided at 40 Coxe Avenue in the Immunization Clinic at no charge.  Health & Human Services staff will refer all clients who qualify and need a flu shot to the Immunization Clinic.

Protect yourself, your family and your community from the flu and other diseases that can spread in the air and on surfaces.

Take these simple steps to prevent spreading the flu and other germs:

  1. Cover your cough
  2. Wash your hands
  3. Stay home if you’re sick
  4. Get a flu shot

Be a Hero and get flu vaccine before flu activity increases.  CDC recommends that all individuals 6 months and older get the flu vaccine every year.  Flu vaccine is very effective for a whole year so there is no benefit to waiting until you believe the flu season is peaking.  Flu vaccine is usually available from your health care provider, drug stores and grocery stores.  For help finding flu vaccine in your area, click this link and enter your zip code into the location field on the upper right side of the screen.

Flu vaccine is also available at our Immunization Clinic located at 40 Coxe Avenue in downtown Asheville, across the street from the post office and bus station.  Parking is free.  Anyone 6 months and older may receive a flu vaccine at this location, without an appointment, Monday through Friday, between the hours of 8am – 5 pm.

Types of flu vaccine available:  Immunization Clinic offers several forms of flu vaccine for anyone over 6 months of age.

  • Flu mist, which is recommended for healthy individuals, ages 2 – 49; and
  • Flu shot, including a “regular” shot, as well as a “high dose” shot for adults 65 years and older.

Cost:  Regular flu shot is $26, High dose flu shot is $42 and Flu mist is $33. We accept Medicaid, Medicare, private insurance and self-pay (cash, check, debit card).  Those with no insurance may qualify for no cost vaccine based on eligibility.
