Local Clean Air Policy Implementation Makes Visible Changes

Recently, the Land of Sky Regional Council was joined by state and local partners including Buncombe County’s Regional Air Quality Agency to discuss the County’s long-term and more recent trends in reducing local air pollution. Topics of conversation included:

  • Governor Cooper’s Executive Order 80, North Carolina’s commitment to address climate change, and transition to a clean-energy economy.
  • Efforts to reduce emissions from motor vehicles in the region.
  • State and federal air quality updates.
  • Duke Energy’s plans for a smarter and cleaner energy future for Western North Carolina.

The Western North Carolina Regional Air Quality Agency monitors and regulates Buncombe County’s air quality and safeguards public health and the environment while preserving the quality of life and economic viability of the area. It handles local industrial permitting and monitoring, keeps up with local, state, and federal regulations, monitors local fine particulate and ozone levels, inspects local gas stations for emissions, and more.
