The "Trauma Intervention Program" or TIP is a group of very well trained community volunteers who are called by emergency personnel to tragic scenes to provide support to those who have been affected. TIP Volunteers are often called to support family members after a sudden death and to support those who have experienced an unexpected crisis in their lives. Many people see these volunteers as their angels.
"When someone in crisis is being cared for by a well-trained volunteer that can attend to their needs in a trauma-informed way, it lessens trauma and gets the healing process started," says Mandy Stone, MSW, Assistant County Manager and Health and Human Services Director for Buncombe County. "It also helps our social workers, first responders, and law enforcement respond more effectively, knowing that they are able to focus on their unique role. This resource will build resilience in our community members experiencing trauma, moving them forward in a more positive way."
The TIP Volunteer Training Academy is held in the fall and spring. No experience is necessary.
