All counties in North Carolina are required to revalue property periodically. The last reappraisal was January 1, 2013. The next scheduled reappraisal for Buncombe County is January 1, 2017. The reappraisal process begins with the reviewing of information used to determine each property’s value. It is important to review all property between reappraisals to make sure that the information used to value property in the next reappraisal is correct.
The Buncombe County Real Estate staff started going door to door to verify and update information for 2017 beginning April 14, 2014. Staff doing these reviews will have Buncombe County employee identification cards. All reviews will be of the building exterior only unless the property owner requests an interior inspection. Information will be left on each door where the owner is not home at the time of the inspection to provide information about the process.
